The reason for his anger is the mistreatment by Konami of his friend, Hideo Kojima, once the most prominent employee of the Japanese game publisher. When Konami was still interested in making big-budget video games, Kojima was the main man overseeing those games.
That all changed when the company decided that mobile games were a better investment than big-budget console and PC games. They came to that conclusion after seeing mobile games that were created with small budgets, were more profitable than console and PC games that the company spent huge sums to develop.
Kojima, whose games were all big-budget titles, did not see eye-to-eye with company executives on the new direction of Konami. Eventually, the man who was synonymous with Konami, was forced out of the company he had worked on for three decades.
A casualty of the break between Kojima and Konami was the project that Kojima collaborated with Guillermo del Toro. Once the game designer was ousted from the company, the project was cancelled.
Because of the cancellation by Konami as well as Kojima being unceremoniously kicked out of the company, Guillermo del Toro now views the game publisher as one of the bad guys. He has not forgotten and it seems del Toro will not let Konami forget either by telling them exactly how he feels about the company.
