The official blog of the Saved Content site

The aim of this blog is to collect and archive my selected thoughts, ideas, feelings, reactions, and opinions on subject matters that pique my interest. These entries represent initial drafts that may contain grammatical and spelling errors and whose substance and position could still change, and which, at some point, I could decide to put together into in-depth articles that will be posted on the main Saved Content and Poverty Sucks sites.

Finally I Can Buy a Digital Copy of Swat 4: Gold Again

The last time a brand new copy of Swat 4: Gold was widely available was back in 2011.  That was the year that the online digital game store, Direct2Drive was bought by video game rental service, GameFly.  That was also the year before it was shutdown, also by GameFly.

The company that had the license to distribute a digital copy of Swat 4: Gold was called TryMedia.  They had a website called TryGames.

TryMedia/TryGames offered Swat 4: Gold for purchase with its own DRM.  The game became more widely available when the online digital game store Direct2Drive added the game to its catalog, still retaining the DRM of TryMedia/TryGames.

When Direct2Drive was acquired and then shutdown by GameFly, both companies no longer had the license to sell Swat 4: Gold.  Players who had bought the game could no longer find a download link in their library.  One of those players was me.

I was very angry with GameFly for taking away a game that I paid for.  I thought they were the worst online game store at that time.  Little did I know that GameStop would outdo them.

Although Direct2Drive was brought back along with my account and library of purchased games, I don't use them anymore.  I'm just glad they are still around so I can still access my games.

I could only wait for the day that I could download again a working legitimate copy of Swat 4: Gold.  This could only happen if it was offered on one of the thriving digital game stores.

When it was announced that the game would finally appear on GOG's catalog, it took the gaming community by surprise.  Gamers were ecstatic.  I for one was surprised and happy that Swat 4: Gold was finally being sold by GOG.
